In October 2003, Tommy was diagnosed to have stomach cancer.  He passed away on Sunday January 11th, 2004.  The service, held on Thursday January 15th in the College Station Cemetary, was led by Reverend Bob Waters, Pastor Emeritus A&M United Methodist Church  and was attended by a great gathering of family and friends.  The gray sky held back it's rain as respects were given by family and friends,  hymns were sung by Basel Lister accompanied by Ralph Moncivias on sax.  A few of Tommy's favorite tunes were performed by Craig Davis (lead singer & guitar) and Heath Allyn (harmonies and guitar).  Tommy was laid to rest alongside Jane, (with Donny close at hand to sing harmony).
