Memorial Service

IN MEMORIUM:

Colleen Rachele (Cade) Atwood       March 27th, 1974 to January 1st, 2003

The Memorial Service and celebration of Colleen's life was held
Saturday, January 11th,  2003
at Anderson Fair, Houston, Texas

.

The memorial service was standing room only at Anderson Fair as family, friends, and fans from all over the country gathered to morn and celebrate Colleen Rachele.  Reverend Andy Smith of Dripping Springs United Methodist Church led the ceremony.  Andy spoke of Colleen's life, of her passing, and led the gathering in prayer and in a reading of the 23rd Psalm.  Andy then donned a guitar and, accompanied by Rob Greenfield on pianio, Lucille Borella (Colleen's mom) on guitar and vocals, and Gina Griffin on vocals, he led the choir and the congregation in hymns and gospel music.

After the service, the stage was opened to family and friends to remember and pay tribute to Colleen Rachele.  Lucille shared childhood memories and shared memorabilia.  Franci Jarrard shared her tribute and remembrance of Colleen and Bill in the early days of Anderson Fair and then of recent years when Colleen and Bill began to work and sing together.  A lady (yet unknown) sang an original composition for Colleen titled "Dove".  Hopefully she will make contact and share her lyrics.  Bill and Lucille ended the service leading all in Stephen Foster's Hard Times Come Again No More.

Music was provided through the evening by Stephen and Franci Jarrard;  Rebels Without Applause--Sherry Reihle, Steve Baker and Kurt Ruthstrom;  Hearin Now--Will and Lynette;  Alicia Gill and Mike Davis--vocals and guitars--Ellen Moore, viola and Doug Duryea, bass;  and Norm Ballanger--vocals, guitar, and percussion.

Life Notes

Colleen was born March 27, 1974 in Houston, Texas to Bill and Lucille Cade.  She graduated from S.F. Austin High School, where she was first chair flute in the band.  She always loved music and people.

On April 6, 2001 she married Russell Atwood whom she loved and respected.  They were building their future together and recently bought their first house.  She sang and performed with her Dad and they had just released their first CD.  It was hard work, but she was proud of the direction given by Bill.  She loved singing and her voice had never sounded better.

She watched over her two younger sisters, Darcy and Sally Borella, saying that she didnít want them to make the same ìmistakesî that she had, and grew to be their and her motherís friend.

Her first hours of life were spent at Anderson Fair with friends, as this was her first stop on the way home from the hospital; her last performance was at Anderson Fair, New Yearís Eve 2002; so it is fitting that we gather here to celebrate her life.

The Anderson Fair family is deeply saddened by the recent death of Colleen Cade.  Colleen grew up as a member of our extended family.  We watched her from childhood, to a teenager, to a young woman.  She always ad a great energy about her that just made you want to be close.  Her inherited musical talents were just beginning to come to fruition.  She worked very hard to develop her skills.  Strong vocals, a relaxed stage presence, and an ear for the subtle nuances of delivering a phrase set her apart as an artist with a bright future.  We will miss those evenings of music, we will miss those great harmonies she delivered while performing with her dad, but most of all we will miss the strong confident woman she had become.  She was simply a great spitit and a good friend.
