My heartfelt sympathies to Tony & Peggy, Doug & Ellen, Diane & Frank.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Bobbie's passing.  She taught me how to sail in the Summer of 1977.  I will never forget her asking me if I knew how to get a  Sunfish up if it tipped over.  Her response to my "...I'm not sure..." was "Well, let's find out" upon which she promptly dumped herself, the Sunfish, and me in the middle of Galveston Bay.  Bobbie showed me how to make do, with whatever was at hand - be it a scrap of line or a piece of wood, and put it to good use.

Bobbie was a genuinely fine person.  She took my family and I under her wing, and my three children - Tim, Elizabeth, and Mary Kate, were among her "adopted grandkids".  She was always there if we needed her, and was a welcome comfort to all of us in 1992.  The last time I saw her, I had a wonderful visit with Bobbie in New Braunfels in the fall of 2001; I regret that I didn't get back to see her one more time.  Over the years, she introduced my family and I to a multitude of things which we cherish to this day, including sailing, Houston Yacht Club, New Braunfels, and her family and many fine friends.

Having moved 3 times since I left Seabrook in 1994, I've had some difficulty gathering photos (I know I have more someplace), but I've attached a number which might be of interest to those visiting the website.

The photos are arranged roughly in chronological order as follows:

1) Ken & Doug in New Braunfels, 10/78
2) Tim Brothers at the helm of "Little Eagle", 6/80
3) Bobbie with Ken, Lynn, & Bill Illing, 7/84 (?)
4) Tim & Elizabeth Brothers, 7/88
5) Elizabeth Brothers, 7/88
6) Aunt Lu w/Mary Kate, Elizabeth, and Tim - HYC
Easter Egg Hunt, 1992 (Elizabeth with the Golden Egg
and first prize bunny rabbit!)
7) Elizabeth, Tim, and Mary Kate as grown ups
(almost), Christmas 2002

I trust we will be able to gather together, if not in
person, then in spirit next weekend, to wish Bobbie
"Fair Winds" one last time.  God Bless!

Mostly when I think about Aunt Bobbie (as she was known to so many of us young'ns) I just get a flood of crystal clear memories of my years in Seabrook that rarely cross my mind otherwise. And though I'll be repeating what everyone else has already said, she was first and foremost a teacher. From  A-Z  she taught it all with unwavering enthusiasm. When I look back I wonder if she ever had a resistant student. It didn't seem that way.

She is and always will be a model of making the most of the gift of life.

When I think about Aunt Bobbie I think about Shore Acres and the HYC.  Also brought to mind are Blue Bell, Rusty and the cats.  One specific memory that will always be with me is one particular day at HYC.  She threw me on a sunfish like I knew what I was doing (I must say I was a bit apprehensive at first).  Anyway, I went on my doddling about the harbor and got a bit daring and decided to go outside.  Well, the wind picked up a bit and it was time to go in.  As always the wind was coming right through the mouth of the harbor.  Aunt Bobbie saw I was having a hard time getting through and came running out along the harbor wall.  She was yelling for me to beach the boat next to the club but in the process she tripped on a loose board and cut her upper lip pretty badly.  Still being the person she was she continued out to me to help.  When I think back on those days about I feel she looked upon me as an adopted granchild.  I just want to say thanks for the memories.
