BOBBIE DURYEA
MEMORIAL PAGE

From: Doug Duryea <dougduryea at nativetexas.com>

Subject: BARBARA DURYEA, R.I.P.  February 18, 1917 to July 7, 2003

This note is to let everyone know that Bobbie Duryea passed away in her sleep on Monday evening, July 7th.

Bobbie was able to stay in her apartment for nearly two years with the able assistance of Ann and Tina before her health required that she be in a facility with full time nursing care in February 2002.  In September we relocated her from Kirkwood Manor in New Braunfels to Sheridan/Bryton Inn in College Station to be closer to us.  Tony and Peggy were nearby in Montgomery and in recent months it was possible for one or another of us to see her almost every day.  We were fortunate that Bryton proved to be an exceptional facility providing her with very professional and compassionate care.

She will be cremated and her ashes will be placed in Galveston Bay alongside Ken's.  As of yet we have not set the date for her memorial service and wake, but it will likely be at the end of July, in Laporte.  I will send out a notice as soon as we have made arrangements.

Bobbie had a knack for educatiing just about everyone she ever met--often whether they liked it or not.  She had her hands in more pies than we could count--microbiologist, teen club owner, special ed teacher, scouts and red cross, civic projects, churches, naturalist, conservationist, sailor, birdwatcher, tour guide, party girl (the short list I think)--and she has touched many folks.  She was known to run into people she knew wherever in the world she was.  She didn't wait for much of anyone and if you wanted to go, you better pack up and trot.

I could use some help in making contact with those folks whose lives she's put her nose into across some 86 plus years. Please check the emails on the list below and send this note along to folks not listed, that you know would like to hear this news.   Send me any emails or phone numbers to be added to the notice list or give me a call.

I have set up a web page for a place to share pictures any of us may have and to share remembrances and sympathies.  There is an email link on the page to send notes or attachments, or send a message to <bobbie@nativetexas.com> with BOBBIE  as the subject.

Doug

Elsie and I were saddened when we got the call from Mom about Bobbie's death.  She was an outstanding Lady who was involved in so many different activities in her life.  Certainly it can be said that Bobbie lived her life to its fullest extent.  Your mother knew, and was known by more people than anybody I ever met.  I believe she was at her best at the cabins in New Braunfalls.  All the Dodge family had many a good time thanks to her hard work and preparations both on the Comal and at the Little Red House.

Please pass my regards to Ellen, Diane and Frank, and Tony and Peggy.

Be thinking about all 6 of you

Doug,

This (d0006) was taken in summer of 71. The troop went to the Bahamas on a sailing trip. I'm not sure why your mom didn't go on that trip, but she was definitely the leader of our Mariner troop and made it all possible. We recycled paper for a year and a half to raise the money to go. My parents and June and Joe Chestnut were the chaperones. Your mom taught me to sail and canoe and tie knots and cook over a fire. And she put up with my interminable guitar playing and a million versions of 'Blowin' in the Wind'.  What a great lady.  There aren't enough women like her in this world, and I will always love her.

Let me know if I can do anything.

Love to all,
Donna
