Equal to Dale's fine taste in ladies, dogs, and birds, was his great appreciation of good humor.
I was always happy to be on his list and see what would turn up in my mailbox.
A favorite that I've kept is "Find the Peach". Click on the thumbnail.Doug

Old Quarter's Got Another Song
Written after a 'visit' from Dale 1:00 am 02/06/02
Randy Soffar
I remember when I was just a kid going out to have some fun
Heading downtown on a hot summer night with the moon shinning bright aboveThe winos and the women were all part of the scenery
The smell of sweet leaf in the air - it was the place to be.The music it was magical, all the friends were there we knew
Brothers and sisters just living the time, but the time it really flew. He'd say time flies like an arrow and fruit flies like a banana
I'd just laugh and toss another dart then say pass that over here can ya'?He was a living legend to me but now he's dead and gone
The light shines even brighter above
Old Quarter's Got Another SongHope I'll get to see him another time, I know we'll meet again
He'll serve me a beer and we'll listen to Townes
I may even bring an old friend. We'll light one up and give a toast to times we had back when
In Old Market Square, By the Pink Pussycat, up on the roof around ten.Say hey to Lightnin' and Stevie Ray
Tell Jimi and Janis too
To wait for me 'cause I'm coming along,
I know they've been waiting for youI want to thank you for the memories.
I want to thank you for the truth.
I want to thank you for all the love you showed to Pup and all the troops.Well now it's just me and this here guitar
I suppose you'd say be strong
So I'll lift up my glass and tip it to you
Old Quarter's Got Another Song.

"Last call for alcohol!..... Show's over....... Get one
for the road."
Empty mugs clank as they're gathered from the empty tables.
Haul 'em behind the bar to be washed, rinsed and sanitized.
Check the upstairs, tell the pool players it's the last
game.
The musician unplugs from the amp & nestles his guitar
in its case.
Pay the musician, count the drawer, leave change for
tomorrow night.
Unplug the amp. Lock the amp and mikes in the closet
below the stairs.
Put a couple of chairs at each table, empty the ashtrays.
Put out the trash.
The place is empty now.
Check the kegs in the cooler. Replace the empties.
Put long necks in to chill. Put the eggs and jalapenos
in the cooler.
Hide the bank bag. Turn out the lights. Lock
the doors
"Let's go home, Pup."

Dear Friends,
At 12:35 p.m. today, February 6, 2002, my beloved brother, Dale,
passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife, mother and mother-in-law.
You all know what a fabulous guy he was. I would like to share with you
something our cousin, Trude Rowsey wrote. It is from the heart:Once upon a time there was a little boy-
And a pretty little boy he be
And as he grew his looks did too-
He became every gal's dreamHis spirit did soar, as unique is the word
For his kindness and gentility
Whether feathered or furred, Jewish or Kurd
We all love his affabilityHe has traveled, he's sailed
Soared--freedom uncurtailed,
Oh what a history our character has!The stories are many, they're varied aplenty
But, no bragging---he's never been crass.
So no one knows all of his rises and falls
Though the funny ones did seem to amass. When young, not a child- he remained a bit wild
No need for the fun to be ending.
There were laughs to be had, maturity's sad
So enjoy these fine herbs God is sending. He had friends by the gross, more women than most
But none who could keep his attention. Then he met a young gal who was more than a pal
She offered more than he ever dared mention. He knew in his heart that she was, 'The One',
Who'd walk next to him throughout his life.
And when they were sure that love would endure,
She agreed to become his wife.So married they got, needed or not
The paper made their moms smile. And together they strode down life's windy road
Side by side they traversed every mile.Unless he would stumble, then he didn't need mumble
She'd support him as long as he needed. And he'd do the same when the time ever came-
Though rarely they felt that defeated. Many years later, their love was yet greater
If you can imagine that.Their life was just grand, not perfect as planned
But the thin was outweighed by the fat. They had fun when together-like tickled by feathers
The magic had grown ever stronger. They were partners for sure, they're love had endured
As the pet list just kept getting longer. But all quickly changed when bad news boldly came
Perhaps they had months and not years. Both were sad at the news, so much left yet to do
It just didn't seem right to their ears. They thought and they cried, laughed and then sighed
They talked about her love, and his. He'll be walking alone through a mystical threshold
To a place that's been called the true bliss.Though they knew that was true, both were still very blue
For the change just seem too much to bear. When a new point-of-view, perhaps slightly skewed
made everything suddenly much clearer.Dale's work is all done, and he's going to have fun
Visiting family and friends from the past.Gail could come too, but her chores aren't through
So he'll watch over her as he has laughs. For Uncle Nathan's still funny, Zynda's still clumsy
And Auntie Anna's no thinner up there.
Dale's daddy's still flying and other relatives are whining
How'd you get a dog way up here?See, the more that things change, they stay just the same
The test is to find the connection.Dale'll be partying first, while Gail's feeling the worst
For she'll be missing his special affection. But, he'll miss her too, and when it's her cue
He'll be right there at the gate with confections!!!
The funeral will be on Friday, February 8, 2002 at
Houston National Cemetery.
